Driving Range Declaration

Urban + Extra Urban (MIDC Part 1 + Part 2)

August 31, 2024

Driving Range

  • To ensure that the range of all electric vehicles (EV) is judiciously compared against a common standard, the Government of India (MoRTH) has specified certain conditions for conducting the MIDC range tests. All OEMs are mandated to declare the range certified from these tests publicly.

  • The MIDC testing cycle includes two parts – Urban representing City driving (P1), and Extra Urban (P2) representing Highway driving. Till recently, EVs were being tested only for P1 i.e. the Urban part of the cycle. With EVs gaining popularity and longer range, the Government has recently mandated all OEMs to test and declare range values with both parts of the cycle, Urban and Extra urban (P1+P2), included.

  • Tata.ev welcomes this progressive step towards enhancing transparency and customer awareness regarding EV range. Accordingly, starting 10th September 2024, Tata.ev will report the range certified for all its EVs from MIDC’s P1+P2 (Urban + Extra Urban) test.

  • In addition, to further improve customer understanding, Tata.ev with its C75 range disclosure, will continue to voluntarily share the near real-world driving range that 75% of customers can expect to enjoy based on the historic usage data gained from an impressive 4 billion kilometers cumulatively covered on Indian roads by 1.65 lakh+ Tata.ev cars and SUVs.
